Millennials are Here to Stay: How to Harness the Best of What They Have to Offer

In 2016, the Millennial generation surpassed the Baby-Boomers as the largest living generation in the United States. By the year 2020, Millennials will make up more than half of the US workforce. These numbers are vitally important to keep in mind for those of us who are still challenged and maybe even a bit frustrated by this often-maligned generation.

Stereotyping millennials is unfair to them and counterproductive for everyone. History shows us there are clear and constant patterns of generational evolutions that cross all ages, influenced by historical milestones, technology advances, political trends, and so much more.

You really have two choices: stay frustrated, complain, and count the days until you retire; or that pesky millennial moves onto the next great adventure. Or you could consider the unique opportunity you have to influence, learn from, and set millennials up for success, so they can help make our world a better place—which is really what the millennial generation is most passionate about.

Regardless of which path you choose, millennials are here to stay. They are our employees, our customers, and they are the future. By equipping GenX and Boomer generations with a positive mindset and a few effective strategies, millennials will respond well, stay with your organizations longer, and do the great work that was instilled in them at an early age!
